Your Business Interruption Checklist

September 17, 2013

"It won't happen to me." Have you ever stopped to think about how many business owners have made that statement or thought something similar? The simple truth is we never think a natural disaster will affect us, even though we see proof nearly every week that disasters can, and do happen. The most current example of this is the flooding that happened in Boulder County, Colorado last week.

An entire town was asked to evacuate.

Take a moment and let that sink in...an entire town!

Now, put yourself in the place of the business owners in that town. By the time the evacuation order came, it was too late to try and pull information together, save important files, or back up computer files because at that point, you are more concerned about family and employee safety than a few pieces of paper. After the crisis has run its course, imagine what it would be like to try and rebuild your business after it was literally washed away.

Scenarios like this are all too real and occur every year. You owe it to your business to take that reality seriously. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Follow this link to see a sample checklist geared towards preparing your business for the inevitable natural disaster.
